“I objected to moving and living in Indian River County,” Donna said, wondered where she and her spouse would go if she had a medical issue. Her husband promised they would drive outside of the county to find healthcare, and for a while, they did. “I have really good Medicare insurance and could go anywhere. I was receiving care at Jupiter Medical Center, which is very far away,” Donna said. An acquaintance suggested Treasure Coast Community Health (TCCH) as a closer alternative.
New to the concept of community health centers (CHC), Donna was concerned about receiving the personalized care she had come to expect from private medical offices. Would TCCH offer a lower quality of care because of their CHC status?
Patient Experience
Donna soon realized, “This is not your normal community clinic.” TCCH offered the same care as providers in larger organizations with more convenience. She explained, “We were very impressed with the facilities. The employees are so welcoming, lab and x-ray are on site, and the locations are scrupulously clean and quiet. It was a blessing to find a place that welcomed us with such kindness. Everything was perfection. TCCH had everything we needed.”
While compassion and a welcoming environment are important, medical care is vital. “I never feel rushed through an examination. They explain my symptoms, the possible cause, and order the appropriate tests. It’s a wonderful experience,” Donna said.
A recently minor injury almost forced Donna to seek care at a walk-in clinic. With hope, she contacted TCCH and received a same day appointment resulting in an on-site x-ray, medication, and referral to a specialist; and she didn’t need to drive outside of the county.
“My favorite thing is referring people to TCCH because I want them to see the best. I want them to see a practitioner that can help them,” Donna said.
Kindness Matters
Kindness matters to Donna and it’s another reason to use TCCH services. She believes that a soft expression and an encouraging word positively impacts health outcomes. Donna subscribes to the TCCH mission that everyone deserves healthcare, adding, “The fact that you serve so many people who would never otherwise have healthcare, and you do it with such kindness, I’m so touched. It shows that TCCH is an unbelievably caring organization.”
